Remote sensing for classification of new wilderness vegetation in the hinterland of Kutná Hora

Numerous areas in the Czech landscape have been abandoned by human activity, allowing natural processes to take over. Some of these areas have transformed into new wilderness characterized by diverse vegetation compositions, representing va- rious successional stages. The aim of this work is to conduct a comprehensive and accurate classification of vegetation in the new wilderness area utilizing remote sensing techniques. For this purpose, multispectral UAS data with a 5 cm spatial resolution, hyperspectral aerial data with a 60 cm spatial resolution, and botani- cal data collected at three different dates within the area of interest were used. Based on the collected data and the assessment of species separability, three clas- sification legends were proposed to classify the area of interest using Maximum Likelihood, Random Forest and object-based classifiers. The F1-score was used to assess the classification accuracy of vegetation classes. The results demonstrated the suitability of the object classifier for classifying a highly diverse vegetational area at a very high spatial resolution (achieving the highest overall accuracy of 84.06% across 22 classes). Land use change in the Cheb area - new wilderness

The theses deals with exploration of new wilderness which comes into being in abandoned areas in border regions in the Cheb district. Using the newly defined transformation index, two cadastral territories in the district were identified with the highest probability of new wilderness occurence. The occurrence of a new wilderness was demonstrated in both cadastral areas and was categorized into typology already established. Photographs and ArcGis maps were added to the field survey. Post-habitat and post-agrarian new wilderness were identified in both cadastral territories. Further, there were identified post-montane and post-aquatic new wilderness. Despite the position near the border, where the Iron Curtain was located, post- military new wilderness was not identified there. New wilderness occurs in both localities on more than 10 % of area. Changes in land cover and landscape use in the former military training area Ralsko after 1990

This diploma thesis deals with the change of the landscape cover and the use of the landscape of the former Ralsko military training area after 1990. The former VVP Ralsko is located on the area of 250 km2 between Česká Lípa, Stráží pod Ralskem and Mnichovo Hradištěm. Most of its territory lies in the Liberec region and only its southern part reaches the Central Bohemian region. After the departure of the Soviet troops in 1991, the military training area was abolished and on 1 January 1992 the village of Ralsko, which currently has 171 km2 , was formed by merging nine municipalities in its former territory. The town of Ralsko is thus an area with the largest area in the Czech Republic. Between 1993 and 2004, the former military area was decontaminated, during which more than 120,000 pieces of ammunition were found and destroyed. Decontamination of contaminated soils and groundwater is ongoing. Some former military buildings are currently commercially used as warehouses for raw materials. The Military Airport at Hradčany is partly used for sports purposes, and a range of rare game species has been set up in the area of the Židlov tank space, of which the most interesting is the European Tooth (Bison bonasus). New wilderness and its theoretical context on the example of Rohan island

New wilderness is a term denoting a particular kind of environment which is considerably modified by human activity and then abandoned. These places are left to their own development defined mostly by natural processes. This work describes the phenomenon of new wilderness both in Czech and international context. It attempts to capture not only the general nature of new wilderness but also to point out various features which are provoked by its character. Subsequently it discusses the theory of Umwelt by Jakob von Uexküll describing the relation of individual to the world and treating the space as perceived individually. Second part of this work is dedicated to concrete example of new wilderness - Rohan island in Prague. It summarizes its history and natural conditions. The concepts of Umwelt and heterotopia are then applied to this locality. The two theories in question, conceiving space in a specific way, develop further the complexity and richness of the phenomenon of new wilderness.
